The Tartan Army have proven themselves to be some of, if not the most popular, football fans in the world. The last week has seen countless examples that show them to be enthusiastic, generous, and always ready for a party. And it seems their redeeming qualities haven't gone unnoticed, particularly when it comes to the ladies of Boston.
There is no shortage of videos on social media showing Scots cheering on the team, teaching Bostonians how to play the bagpipes, or sneaking orange traffic cones on top of local statues. But among these clips is plenty of footage of American ladies being, literally, swept off their feet by swarthy Scotsman.
Social media has become flooded with videos showing an emerging trend, one of smiling American women being romantically carried away by kilt-clad Tartan soldiers.
One clip that has gone viral, shared by American Grace Kendez, depicts such a scenario, has racked up over 479,000 views, 54,000 likes, and it has exploded with hilarious predictions. There has been much speculation of how Scots in Boston will impact the maternity wards of local hospitals.
"Boston hospitals in nine months are going to be flourishing," one commenter joked. A second one claimed: "Ohh the FIFA baby boom."
A third coined the term: "Soon to be Boston bairns." While a fourth cleverly retorted: "How I met yer maw."
There are plenty of other videos circulating TikTok that echo this sentiment. A separate video, posted by user @rileyyroche, sees a young woman hitched up into a Scotsman's arms to Lana Del Rey's track Video Games.
The lyrics "He holds me in his big arms, drunk and I'm seeing stars" are clearly heard. A video caption spread across the screen reads: "If the American men won't, the Scottish men will."
Responses to this video have been just as eye-watering. One user commented: "Your Scottish husband." User @rileyyroche responded: "Gotta move there to get princess treatment I guess."
But alas, like all great wars before us, our soldiers must take their leave and head to a new mission. For the Tartan Army, the next stop is Miami, Florida, where Scotland will take on Brazil in their third match.
Still, one can only hope that our strapping Scotsmen have shown enough chivalry to the American ladies to warrant a follow back on Instagram. And who knows what this could bloom into in the future?
