Strathearn Marathon 2026: Record-Breaking Success in Perthshire

Record-Breaking Performances and Global Participation

The Strathearn Marathon, held in the scenic Perthshire countryside, has been hailed as an outstanding success by organisers. Runners from across the UK and as far as the United States gathered in Strathearn for the annual event, which took participants through Crieff, Comrie, and the surrounding countryside before finishing at Cultybraggan Camp.

Race director Jim McConnell expressed his delight at the event's success. He said: “I am really pleased to welcome runners from all over the country and even from the USA on what was a superb day to go running. There were some excellent times and the ladies’ course record was broken. The families and supporters made it a special day.”

Men's and Women's Winners

Andrew Kirk of Kirkintilloch Olympians claimed the men's race and overall title with an impressive time of 2:53:26. In the women's race, Jennifer Whetton delivered a record-breaking performance, setting a new course record with a time of 2:58:22.

Local runners from Strathearn Harriers also achieved notable success. Ronan McDermott completed the marathon in 3:47:08, while Isla Gallagher finished in 3:54:55. For Gallagher, the achievement was particularly special as she followed in her father’s footsteps to complete the marathon, fulfilling a long-held personal ambition.

Community Support and Volunteer Efforts

The event showcased strong community spirit, with organisers praising volunteers, local businesses, sponsors, and supporters. Special thanks were extended to Gavin, Stuart and Craig Roberts, The Handy Shop Comrie, Gourley’s Catering, SHIP, Comrie Pipe Band, Jim Smith, Comrie Community Trust, RR Printing, Cultybraggan Camp, Unc McConnell, Camp 21 Café, The Co-op, Tony Martin, George Carson, and the many marshals and volunteers.

Participants were highly complimentary about the organisation and atmosphere. One runner described it as the perfect first marathon, praising the “absolutely amazing marshals” and support throughout the route. Another said the encouragement from volunteers and local residents made a huge difference, particularly for runners further back in the field. A third participant thanked organisers for a “fantastic day”, adding: “The piper, the camp, the route, the absolutely amazing marshals and the shout-out at the finish line could not have been better. You guys throw a great marathon party – and the dinosaurs giving out water was the icing on the cake.”

Looking Ahead to 2027

Following another successful event, the organising team is already looking ahead to welcoming runners back to Strathearn for the 2027 marathon. The strong community support and record-breaking performances have set a high bar for future editions.
