The father of former world champion boxer Ricky Hatton has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his son, just a day before Hatton announced his return to the ring. Ray Hatton, 61, was given a police caution following the incident outside Ricky's gym in Hyde, Greater Manchester.
Police were called to Market Street shortly before 11:45 BST on Thursday after reports of a fight between two men outside a health and fitness club. A 33-year-old man was assaulted by a 61-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of common assault and later cautioned.
It is understood that Ricky Hatton, 33, had to defend himself during a heated argument in the car park but was not injured. Neither Ray Hatton nor the boxer's agent commented on the incident.
On Friday, Ricky Hatton announced his comeback to professional boxing, more than three years after his last fight. He stated, 'It's more than a comeback. I'm fighting to redeem myself.' Hatton was stripped of his boxing licence in September 2010 and fined £20,000 after allegations of cocaine use. He officially retired in 2011 with a record of 45 wins and two defeats.
