Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather have announced plans for an exhibition fight in spring 2026, according to a joint statement from their promotions. The news broke on 4 September when Tyson shared a poster on Instagram captioned “Coming soon”, featuring the faces of both boxing legends alongside the words: “Legend vs legend, 2026, signed. Special exhibition, live, worldwide broadcast.”
The poster listed Mike Tyson Promotions, Floyd Mayweather Promotions and Fight Sports. A press release from CSI Sports and Fight Sports confirmed that the event will take place in spring 2026, with a specific date and venue still to be determined. The organisers, brothers Richard and Craig Miele, said the show would be held in a “world-class venue” and broadcast globally with new in-ring technology. No broadcaster has been announced, though Netflix – which aired Tyson’s fight with Jake Paul – is a likely candidate.
Former heavyweight champion Tyson, 59, said: “When CSI came to me about stepping in the ring with Floyd Mayweather, I thought, ‘No way this happens,’ but Floyd said ‘yes’. This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. … I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening.”
Mayweather, 48, who retired undefeated as a five-weight world champion, added: “I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and there hasn’t been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy. … This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”
As an exhibition, the fight is unlikely to feature a knockout attempt, and there will be no official winner if it goes the distance. The number and length of rounds have not been announced, though Tyson’s recent fight with Paul consisted of eight two-minute rounds, as did Mayweather’s rematch with John Gotti III. Glove size and weight class also remain unclear; Tyson is a former heavyweight, while Mayweather fought between 130lb and 154lb.
Tyson last fought in November 2023, losing a decision to YouTuber Jake Paul in a professional bout. Mayweather last competed in an exhibition rematch against Gotti III in August 2023. Both men have previously taken part in exhibition bouts, with Tyson facing Roy Jones Jr in 2020 and Mayweather stopping opponents in some of his recent exhibitions.
