Boxing Star Gervonta Davis Detained After Intensive Police Search
World champion boxer Gervonta Davis, aged 31, has been arrested following a rigorous two-week manhunt conducted by authorities in the United States. The Baltimore-born fighter, widely known by his nickname 'Tank', was taken into custody on Wednesday after an extensive operation led by the Miami Gardens Police Department in collaboration with US Marshals.
Serious Charges Stemming from Nightclub Incident
The arrest warrant for Davis was originally issued on January 14th, with the boxer facing multiple serious charges including battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping. These allegations originate from an incident reported to have occurred at a nightclub in the Miami Gardens area on October 27th.
According to official reports, a woman who had been in a relationship with Davis for approximately six months has accused the boxer of domestic violence. The relationship had concluded around one month prior to the alleged incident, after which the woman decided to cease all contact with the fighter.
Detailed Allegations of Violent Confrontation
The complainant alleges that Davis approached her while she was working at the venue in the early hours of the morning, around 4:15am. She claims the boxer grabbed her by the back of her head, pulling her hair with one hand while simultaneously gripping her throat with the other.
Police statements from lead detective Gary Florencio detail that the victim reported Davis forcefully escorted her down a stairway and towards a VIP parking garage while maintaining his grip on her head and neck. During this alleged altercation, Davis is reported to have stated: 'You think that I would not find you?'
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
Upon reaching the parking area, the woman claims Davis finally released her, allowing her to run to her co-workers for assistance. Two days following the incident, she formally reported the matter to police, presenting minor injuries including bruising to her left arm.
The exact circumstances surrounding Davis's eventual arrest remain unclear, though authorities confirmed his detention on Wednesday. The boxer's bail has been set at $16,000, equivalent to approximately £11,568.
Previous Legal Issues and Impact on Boxing Career
This is not the first legal trouble for the boxing champion. The victim had previously filed a lawsuit against Davis in October regarding the same altercation, which reportedly disrupted the boxer's planned exhibition match with fellow fighter Jake Paul.
The legal complaint references at least four previous confrontations between Davis and the woman. One alleged incident occurred on September 2nd after she failed to respond to the boxer's messages, while another reportedly took place 21 days later when Davis accused her of infidelity, sent a threatening text message, and allegedly assaulted her at a restaurant.
Neither Davis's legal representatives nor the fighter himself have issued any public statement regarding this latest arrest. The case continues to develop as legal proceedings move forward.
