Tyson Fury's undisputed world heavyweight title fight against Oleksandr Usyk has been rearranged for 18 May in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, promoters have announced. The bout was originally scheduled for later this month but was postponed after the Briton suffered a severe cut above his right eye during a training session.
Queensberry Promotions released a statement alongside a photograph of Fury's injury, noting that it required urgent medical attention and significant stitching. The statement confirmed that the wound would need a period of recovery, making the original fight date impossible.
Usyk's camp initially expressed scepticism about the injury. The Ukrainian's manager, Egis Klimas, told Sky Sports that Fury "will do anything to not face Usyk" and suggested the cut may have been caused by a frying pan. Usyk's promoter, Alex Krassyuk, commented on Fury's Instagram post, saying: "God sent you a sign. Think of retirement, brother."
The winner of the encounter will become the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the four-belt era. Usyk currently holds the WBO, WBA, and IBF titles, while Fury is the WBC champion.
