Daniel Dubois is set to take his first holiday since beginning his professional boxing career, following his victory over Ebenezer Tetteh at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday night. The 22-year-old heavyweight won the Commonwealth title by knocking down Tetteh twice in 130 seconds, securing his eighth belt in just 13 fights.
Dubois will visit Grenada, his father's home island, for a two-week break. However, he admitted he may find it difficult to relax. 'I think I'll find it tough putting my feet up in the Caribbean for two weeks and relaxing with a few non-alcoholic cocktails but I'll give it my best shot,' he said.
The Dulwich giant previously visited Chicago with his sister but ended up going to the gym. He plans to return to the ring in December to continue his pursuit of the world heavyweight champions. 'I am now the British and Commonwealth champion, doing things that only the greats like Prince Naseem and Nigel Benn did,' Dubois said.
Dubois credited his relaxed mindset for his powerful performance against Tetteh, and highlighted the development of his left jab as a key weapon. 'Mine is now a dangerous weapon. I never overlook the fundamentals and basics of boxing and that pays dividends against every sort of fighter you can face,' he explained.
He also claimed that fighters such as David Price and Derek Chisora have turned down fights with him, and suggested promoter Frank Warren may need to offer more money to secure opponents. Dubois has 13 wins, 12 by knockout, and believes his performances have sent a shockwave through the heavyweight division.
