Carl Froch Claims John Fury Has Gone Silent After Fight Challenge
Carl Froch: John Fury Has Gone Silent After Fight Challenge

Former world champion Carl Froch has claimed that John Fury, the father of heavyweight star Tyson Fury, has fallen silent after initially calling him out for a fight, with negotiations for a proposed bout now broken down.

Fight Talks Collapse Amid Bitter Feud

John Fury had relentlessly challenged Froch, confronting him last month ahead of his son's press conference to confirm a comeback fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov. Froch accepted the challenge to fight the 60-year-old on the undercard at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 11, but now alleges his rival has backed down.

Froch's Scathing Assessment

In an interview with NewBettingSites.uk, Froch delivered a blunt assessment of Fury's boxing credentials. "What level was John Fury? He had a couple of fights... I'm not sure how many he had, but he was a journeyman," Froch stated. "He's been brave enough to get in there and have a go. I think he got splattered. So, he's a very low-level journeyman. But still brave enough to get in there, still fought, still laced the gloves up, so he deserves credit for that. But he was absolutely fucking useless."

Froch's Fight Strategy

Froch detailed how he would approach a fight with Fury, emphasizing restraint out of respect. "John Fury has gone quiet on our fight, as he does. You don't want any of the cobra. He doesn't need me punching him around the ribs. I physically wouldn't hit him with a right hand on the chin if I boxed him. I wouldn't do it, just out of respect. I’d just jab him in the face. My jab has not even half the power on my right-hand. And I'd only work his body. I'd only hit him in the bread basket. That's all I'd need to do. So I'd jab him in the face, and work the body."

Comparison to Jake Paul

Froch also suggested that John Fury would have a more competitive match against internet personality turned boxer Jake Paul. "Jake Paul vs. John Fury in his prime would have been an even match," he added. "Both operated at a similar level. John Fury in his day would probably beat Jake Paul because he knows how to throw a punch, but it would have been a close fight."

The feud highlights the ongoing tensions in the boxing world, with Froch's comments underscoring the breakdown in what was once a potential high-profile bout.
