Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Terence Crawford are set to face off this weekend in Las Vegas in what is being billed as the fight of the year. The bout, which will crown an undisputed super-middleweight champion, sees American Crawford stepping up two weight classes to challenge the Mexican star.
While official purse figures have not been disclosed, reports suggest a total prize fund of $200 million, with Canelo earning $150 million and Crawford taking $50 million. The figures have been fuelled by comments from promoter Dana White, who hinted at a nine-figure payday for Canelo when asked about the purse.
Crawford previously claimed he would earn $10 million for the fight, but accepted estimates place his payout five times higher. The fight is part of Canelo's four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, reported to be worth $400 million, adding to his estimated career earnings of $550 million.
The event is expected to draw a sellout crowd of 65,000 at the Allegiant Stadium, breaking the venue's attendance record. White confirmed it will be the third biggest live gate in boxing history, behind only Mayweather vs Pacquiao and Mayweather vs McGregor.
