Alycia Baumgardner successfully defended her WBA, WBO and IBF junior lightweight titles with a 10-round unanimous decision victory over South Korea's Bo Mi Re Shin on Saturday night. Two judges scored the fight 98-92, while a third had it 99-91, all in favour of the American champion.
Baumgardner showcased her technical superiority throughout the contest, outboxing the brave and indefatigable challenger. Despite a five-year knockout drought, the champion delivered a convincing performance, landing crisp combinations and deftly avoiding Shin's forward pressure.
The fight saw intense exchanges, with Shin rallying in the middle rounds to make it competitive. However, Baumgardner consistently outlanded her opponent, particularly with power shots—landing 86 to Shin's 44 according to punch statistics. The crowd was whipped into an uproar as the fighters traded hellfire in the final seconds before embracing at the bell.
Earlier in the evening, concern arose over Shadasia Green, who was reportedly conscious, speaking and moving after her bout. The main event proceeded as scheduled, with Baumgardner entering to Lil' Kim's 'The Jump Off' to a huge reaction in the rapper's hometown.
