Tartan Army Enjoy 'Taps Aff Weather' as They Party Through Boston Storm

A little bit of rain wasn't going to stop the Tartan Army from celebrating. Scots have kept the partying going in Boston - come rain or shine.

It was announced yesterday (June 18) that the FIFA Fan Zone in Boston had been shut down due to fears over stormy weather in the area. However, Boston locals quickly found out that a bit of wind and rain wasn't going to stop the Tartan Army in their tracks.

Over the last couple of weeks, thousands of Scots have been soaking up the sun in Boston as they celebrate Scotland being in the World Cup for the first time in 28 years. Covering the streets in blue and white kits and a variety of different kilts, the Scots have truly left their mark on the city.

Having kept the party atmosphere going since the World Cup kicked off last week, the Scots showed that they won't let their spirit dampen come rain or shine, quite literally. In a recent video uploaded to TikTok by @wobmcc98, the Tartan Army can still be seen cheering away in the midst of a downpour.

This video comes as the Boston fan zone, where a lot of the Scots' shenanigans have been taking place, announced that it would be closed on Thursday, June 18, due to anticipated stormy conditions. As such, many Scots chose to find somewhere else to party.

While the Met Office was reporting a 70 per cent chance of rain, along with clouds and 22C heat, many Scots were seen to take their energy to the next level as they cheerfully sang 'Super John McGinn' on a staged area of the Scotland House in the city.

With many of the Scotland supporters also seen to take their shirts off to embrace the rainy conditions, the TikTok user captioned the post: 'The rain doesn't stop Scotland'.

Many social media users have since commented under the post acknowledging that the Scots will have felt more at home in the downpour. One person wrote: 'If anything it's a hot shower.' With another adding: 'Have you seen the rain we get over here in Scotland, that's just a shower.'

Other Scots in the comments also joked: 'Ahhh summer! Just means warm rain up here.' While a fourth person stated: 'Definitely taps aff weather in Scotland.'

Feeling as though a part of Scotland was brought to Boston city, another person added: 'Now that's more like being home.' Meanwhile, it was also suggested that the 'drizzle' would help the Tartan Army as they struggle with the hotter temperatures: 'It's just a wee bit of home to cool them down from the heat.' This was followed by another Scot noting: 'Just a drizzle, no even big coat weather!'

In the fan zone announcement, a spokesperson wrote: 'Due to anticipated inclement weather conditions, the FIFA Fan Festival Boston at City Hall Plaza will be closed today, June 18. It's our priority to ensure the safety of fans, staff, volunteers, and emergency services personnel. Additional operational updates will be shared as needed.'

Scotland is set to play against Morocco this evening in their second game of the World Cup group stages. Thankfully, the Met Office is predicting sunny conditions and a high of 27C for kick off at 6pm local time (11pm GMT).
