Lawrence Shankland has been told he must earn the respect of the Rangers dressing room after being named captain. The lifelong fan and new signing was handed the armband by boss Derek McInnes following James Tavernier's summer exit.
Shankland's new role
Shankland, 31, skippered Hearts to the brink of Scottish Premiership title glory last season and has a tight relationship with McInnes. But having only walked through the Ibrox gates this summer, he has been urged to ease his way into the role by Stuart Pearce.
Pearce's advice
England legend Pearce, 64, went through a similar experience after being entrusted with the role by Kevin Keegan just weeks after joining Manchester City. Speaking on talkSPORT, Pearce offered invaluable advice: "I think just ease your way in. Don't try and change everything all in one hit. You've got to prove yourself to the dressing room that they respect you as a player."
Pearce added: "Ease your way in, don't use a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Get to know the dressing room, get to know each other."
