Bob MacIntyre has been warned that his place at next year’s Masters could be at risk after a series of outbursts during his disappointing performance at Augusta National. The 29-year-old Scottish golfer missed the cut after finishing seven over par, but it was his conduct on the course that drew the ire of officials.
MacIntyre was seen swearing after his tee shot on the 12th hole and again after a putt on the 13th, before directing his middle finger towards the hole following a quadruple bogey on the 15th. Augusta officials reportedly reprimanded the world number 12 for his behaviour, which also included a social media post depicting himself as a Masters gnome with an extended middle finger.
Rory McIlroy’s former agent, Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, said MacIntyre could face severe consequences. “He’ll have been taken to one side and somebody will have given him some very stern words, which are better than any fine,” Chandler told Action Network. “It might have gone something like, ‘Listen, young Mr. MacIntyre, if you behave like that again, you’ll find your invitation won’t be turning up next year.’ Because everybody gets invited.”
MacIntyre, who declined to speak to the media during the event, is said to have come close to withdrawing due to a neck injury sustained in the gym. He pulled out of the Par Three Contest and missed a practice round. He is next scheduled to play at the RBC Heritage in South Carolina, where he will aim to bounce back from his Masters disappointment.
