Hodgkinson silver as Werro wins European 800m gold

Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson took silver in the European Championships 800m final in Birmingham, as rival Audrey Werro claimed gold. The Olympic champion ran 1:55:01, narrowly missing a third European title in a tightly contested race.

Werro's dramatic path to gold

Werro, who earlier this season ran the fastest time in 43 years, suffered a dramatic fall in her semi-final, putting her place in the final in doubt. The 22-year-old Swiss athlete crashed to the floor and finished last, but after an appeal, she was reinstated for the final.

Investigation into the fall

A TV camera angle appeared to show Werro clipping her own leg before falling, but an investigation showed France's Anais Bourgoin had hit Werro's right foot with her left hand.
