Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson narrowly missed out on gold in the 800m at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, finishing second to claim a silver medal.

The 24-year-old Olympic champion started out in front but was overtaken halfway through the race by Austria's Audrey Werro, who managed to hold on to take first place. Femke Bol of the Netherlands also competed in the final on Friday evening.
Hodgkinson had breezed through her heat and semi-final earlier in the week before facing serious competition in the final.
