Trump's Hispanic Support Plummets in New Fox News Poll on Key Issues
A new Fox News survey has revealed a dramatic erosion of support for President Donald Trump among Hispanic voters, a demographic that was crucial to his reelection victory in 2024. The poll shows that only 28 percent of Hispanic voters now approve of Trump's presidency, with a staggering 72 percent expressing disapproval. This marks a significant decline from January 2025, just before Trump returned to office, when his approval rating stood at 59 percent among this group.
Steady Decline in Approval Ratings
The downward trend began in March 2025, when Trump's approval among Hispanic voters fell to 44 percent. Although it saw a slight recovery to 48 percent in December, the latest figures indicate a sharp and sustained drop. This shift is particularly noteworthy given Trump's historic gains with the Hispanic community in 2024, which built on his growth from the 2020 election cycle. His campaign had focused on promises to reduce the cost of living, resonating with many voters at the time.
Key Concerns Driving the Shift
Hispanic voters are overwhelmingly worried about several pressing issues that have influenced their political stance. A whopping 76 percent express concern about paying their bills, while 84 percent are troubled by inflation and high prices. The war in Iran has exacerbated these economic anxieties, with Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz causing gas prices to skyrocket. Additionally, Trump's continued imposition of tariffs, despite a Supreme Court ruling, has further strained household budgets.
Foreign policy is another major area of discontent. Only 24 percent of Hispanic voters approve of Trump's foreign policy, and just 21 percent support his handling of the Iran situation. Notably, 66 percent oppose military action against Iran, compared to 58 percent of voters overall, and 62 percent believe the action against Iran is not going well.
Immigration and Deportation Fears
Immigration policies have also played a pivotal role in the declining support. Sixty-two percent of Hispanic voters report being concerned about deportations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This anxiety has been fueled by Trump's deployment of large numbers of ICE officials into cities such as Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Chicago. Tragically, this surge led to the deaths of American citizens Renee Good by ICE and Alex Pretti by Customs and Border Protection in Minneapolis two months ago, adding to the community's distress.
Broader Political Implications
The poll's findings have significant implications for upcoming elections. Democrats are hopeful that this shift among Hispanic voters could provide them with an advantage in House races and in Texas's Senate race, where Democrat James Talarico will face either incumbent Sen. John Cornyn or MAGA Attorney General Ken Paxton, depending on a runoff outcome. Recent voter turnout in the Texas Democratic primary, particularly in the heavily Latino Rio Grande Valley, and support for Gov. Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey's Latino areas that previously backed Trump, underscore this potential realignment.
Comparison with Overall Approval Ratings
Trump's approval among Hispanic voters is now lower than his overall approval rating in the Fox poll, which stands at 41 percent, with disapproval at 59 percent—the highest since his return to office. This trend is corroborated by other polls; a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Tuesday showed Trump's approval at 36 percent, and a Quinnipiac poll from Wednesday indicated only 38 percent of Americans approve of his job performance. As the 2026 political landscape takes shape, these numbers highlight the challenges Trump faces in maintaining his coalition, especially among key voter blocs like Hispanics.
