The investigation, conducted by the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA-World), highlights how marginalised communities are being increasingly targeted as political pawns. This calculated use of hate speech is not confined to any single region but has become a pervasive campaign tactic worldwide.
A Weaponised Political Strategy
The findings show a stark escalation from previous years, indicating that vilifying LGBTQ+ people has become a mainstream tool for garnering political support. The rhetoric often includes spreading misinformation, proposing discriminatory legislation, and scapegoating LGBTQ+ individuals for societal problems.
