London has been the site of regular pro-Palestine demonstrations since the outbreak of the latest Gaza conflict in 2023, with further protests scheduled for later this month. However, ministers are under mounting pressure to prohibit these marches following a series of attacks on the Jewish community, including the stabbings in Golders Green on Wednesday.
Protesters have been accused of engaging in anti-Semitic chanting and displaying anti-Semitic signs. Home Office minister Alex Davies-Jones told Times Radio this morning that the marches have been 'hijacked' by individuals seeking to sow division within the UK.
Terror watchdog Jonathan Hall has called for a moratorium on the demonstrations following the latest terror attack, asserting that they have 'incubated' anti-Semitism. Sir Keir Starmer has backed the prosecution of those who chant 'globalise the intifada' during protests, and the Metropolitan Police is currently reviewing whether future marches can proceed.
Public Opinion Poll
Now you can have your say in the Daily Mail's latest poll: should the marches be banned? In yesterday's poll, Mail readers were asked: 'Is anti-Semitism out of control in Britain, as Israel claims?' Out of more than 6,000 votes, 88 per cent of respondents answered 'yes', while 12 per cent said 'no'.
