An Australian man, Simon Peter Carman, 45, has been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old girl whose naked body was discovered in a suitcase in Thailand. Pattaya City police confirmed the charges, which include murder, concealing a corpse, and abduction of a minor for indecent purposes.
Carman was arrested at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport on Friday evening in connection with the disappearance of Thunchanok Donhomla. Following questioning, police found her body in a suitcase near railway tracks in Pattaya. CCTV footage allegedly shows Carman dragging the suitcase out of a condo building and later returning without it.
In video footage obtained by media, Carman expressed remorse, stating, 'I feel bad for what happened to your daughter. It was out of my control.' He has denied the charges, reportedly claiming self-defence. Local media reported the incident stemmed from a disagreement over money.
Thailand's criminal code allows for the death penalty or 15 to 20 years' imprisonment for murder convictions. The victim's father, Thongchai Donhomla, expressed deep sadness, saying his daughter had no mother and often found her own way. Carman remains in custody, with a court date yet to be set.
