Tragedy struck the North West 200 on Thursday as Kamil Holan, a 48-year-old superbike rider from the Czech Republic, was killed during a qualifying session. The incident occurred at Station Corner on the Triangle Circuit, prompting an immediate red flag and emergency response. Holan is the first fatality at the event since Malachi Mitchell-Thomas died in 2016.
Family Requests Privacy, Event Continues
Initially, Holan's family asked for his name to be withheld, but later granted permission for its release. They expressed their desire for the event to proceed despite their loss. Race organisers, the Coleraine and District Motor Club, confirmed that the rider succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Holan's team, Hefty74, paid tribute on Facebook, stating: "Kamil, you were an inspiration, support and a partner in life and on the track. Your humility, passion and smile will be missed every second. Your legacy will live on in Hefty74 and in our hearts." The team extended condolences to his family and loved ones.
History of the North West 200
The North West 200, Northern Ireland's largest outdoor sporting event, attracts around 100,000 spectators annually. Over its 97-year history, 20 riders have lost their lives. Holan first competed in the event in 2022, joining international riders on the 8.97-mile closed public roads circuit between Portrush, Portstewart, and Coleraine.
Race organisers confirmed that Thursday's scheduled races will not be added to Saturday's six-race schedule. Road Racing Ireland extended its sincere condolences to all affected by the tragedy.
