The Scottish Government has pledged that 'nothing is off the table' in response to the disorder caused by Celtic fans in Glasgow's Trongate area on Saturday. Justice Secretary Angela Constance stated she will use all powers available to prevent further unrest.
Thousands of supporters gathered to celebrate Celtic's 3-1 victory over Hearts, leading to widespread disruption. Over 900 police officers were deployed, and two officers sustained serious injuries while providing medical assistance to a member of the public.
Responding to an urgent question, Ms Constance said the Scottish Government, football authorities, clubs, and councils must 'step up' to address the recurring issue. 'My view is that, now, nothing should be off the table,' she stated, urging all parties to 'get a grip and get on the same page'.
Ms Constance warned those not yet arrested that Police Scotland will 'leave no stone unturned' in bringing them to justice. Scottish Labour MSP Paul Sweeney suggested creating fan zones to divert supporters, but Glasgow City Council dismissed the idea. Ms Constance disagreed with the council's stance, indicating support for fan zones.
Reform UK deputy leader Thomas Kerr described the disorder as 'beyond disgraceful' and occurring 'way too often'.
