A 34-year-old Georgia man has pleaded guilty to making death threats against US Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. Sean Patrick Cirillo admitted to a charge of transmitting interstate threats before a US District Court judge in Atlanta on Tuesday and faces up to five years in prison.
According to prosecutors, Cirillo phoned Greene's Washington DC office three times on November 8 last year. During one call, he told a staff member: 'I'm going to shoot her in the f****** head and kill her.' He also said: 'I'm gonna murder her' and 'I'll kill you too if you want... Your grandchildren are going to f***** die.'
In another call, Cirillo stated: 'I got a bead on her. Like a sniper rifle. A sniper rifle. And I'm gonna kill her next week.' The threats were reported by NBC. US Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan said: 'Threatening to kill a public official is reprehensible. Our office will not tolerate any form of violence, threats or intimidation against public officials.'
This is not the first time Greene has been threatened. Joseph Morelli, of New York, was sentenced to three months in prison last year after leaving violent voicemails. Greene also revealed a death threat on Christmas Day 2023, when she was 'swatted' for the eighth time. The threat included a reference to serial killer Ed Gein, with the sender claiming he wanted to make a 'parasol' out of her skin.
