Monty Don has been reminded of BBC guidelines after wearing a Barbour jacket on Gardeners' World while promoting the same brand in a commercial campaign. The BBC confirmed it addressed the matter with the presenter following appearances in the £300 jacket during the latest series and on the programme's social media channels.
BBC rules on conflicts of interest state that presenters must not appear on-air wearing clothing or using products they have been contracted to promote or in which they have a financial interest. A BBC spokeswoman said: "We have clear guidelines around presenters' commercial activities while working with the BBC, and Monty has been reminded of these guidelines."
The jacket features in Barbour's "Way of Life" campaign, which invites supporters to "shop the look" worn by Don. The campaign includes Don expressing his passion for the outdoors while modelling the brand's garments. Barbour described Don as "the perfect anchor for Barbour's spring/summer 2026 collection".
Don, 70, has hosted Gardeners' World since 2003. The BBC has previously cautioned other presenters, including Ski Sunday's Graham Bell and Chemmy Alcott, over promoting clothing brands. In 2024, Gary Lineker also appeared to breach the same guidelines by wearing outfits from his own fashion line during England's Euros fixture.
