In a significant development within the ongoing Jeffrey Epstein scandal, newly disclosed correspondence from Ghislaine Maxwell appears to directly confirm the authenticity of a controversial photograph featuring Prince Andrew with his arm around his accuser, Virginia Giuffre.
Maxwell's Draft Statement Contradicts Royal Denials
The former socialite, currently serving a prison sentence for her role in Epstein's sex trafficking network, wrote a draft statement in 2015 that seems to acknowledge the photograph's legitimacy. This directly contradicts Prince Andrew's persistent claims that the image might be fabricated or inauthentic.
Key Revelations from the Epstein Files
Among the three million pages of documents recently released by US authorities, emails show Maxwell "stating for the record as fact" several crucial details:
- She introduced Prince Andrew to the then-17-year-old Virginia Giuffre
- The photograph was taken at her London home in 2001
- The meeting occurred during an evening when Andrew visited her residence
In her proposed statement, Maxwell wrote: "In 2001 I was in London when (redacted) met a number of friends of mine including Prince Andrew. A photograph was taken as I imagine she wanted to show it to friends and family. I never asked (redacted) to give him a massage."
Context of the 2015 Correspondence
The emails from 2015 reveal Maxwell was attempting to counter mounting media pressure and negative press coverage at the time. In one message, she indicated "I am having my lawyer talk to your lawyer about something like this" before sharing her draft statement.
Her full draft began: "The allegations made against me by (redacted) are lies." She further complained about "the relentless media harassment to which I, Alan Dershowitz and Prince Andrew have been subjected to over the last week has become intolerable and breaches any justifiable sense of natural justice."
Police Review and Continued Denials
This development comes as Metropolitan Police confirmed they will review the latest claims brought forward against the former prince. Despite Maxwell's apparent confirmation of the photograph's authenticity and the circumstances surrounding it, Prince Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing throughout the investigation.
In a separate section of her correspondence, Maxwell claimed she had "no knowledge" of Ms Giuffre "having sexual activity" with the former Duke of York or other prominent individuals. However, her acknowledgment of the photograph's authenticity and the circumstances of the meeting represents a significant challenge to Andrew's long-maintained position regarding the image.
The released documents continue to shed new light on the relationships and interactions between Epstein's associates and high-profile figures, with this latest revelation about the controversial photograph adding another layer to the complex legal and public relations battle surrounding the case.
