Frank Skinner, the comedian and co-writer of the iconic football anthem 'Three Lions', has revealed he is writing a new poem for the Euro 2028 tournament. The 66-year-old, who has been sober for over 30 years, shared the news during an interview about his upcoming standup show '30 Years of Dirt'. Skinner, who received an MBE in 2023, reflected on ageing, noting that he now struggles to bite into apples and feels time passing more quickly.
Skinner, who won the Perrier Award in 1991, will perform 14 nights of his latest show in London in February. He discussed his Christmas plans, describing himself as 'at his best while dicing vegetables'. Despite his long-term sobriety, Skinner joked about his drinking days, recalling how he would join strangers on buses to smoke weed in Shrewsbury, embracing a 'maverick rebel figure' persona.
The comedian also touched on his experience with depression, which he said lasted only an afternoon. Skinner's new poem for Euro 2028 is expected to capture the spirit of the tournament, following his previous success with 'Three Lions', which has been re-released multiple times since 1996.
