A man in Atlanta has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing unreleased music belonging to global superstar Beyoncé. Kelvin Evans, 41, admitted to charges of entering an automobile and criminal trespass in Fulton County Superior Court.
Details of the Theft
The incident took place in July last year, just two days before the launch of Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour in Atlanta. Evans broke into a parked Jeep Wagoneer that had been rented by Beyoncé's choreographer, Christopher Grant, and dancer, Diandre Blue. The stolen items included hard drives containing unreleased music, footage plans, and concert set lists, which were described as highly sensitive.
Investigation and Arrest
Surveillance cameras captured the break-in, leading to Evans' arrest in August. Despite the swift identification and arrest of the suspect, the crucial hard drives and other stolen property have not yet been recovered.
The case highlights the ongoing risks faced by artists regarding the security of their unreleased work. Beyoncé, known for her meticulous control over her music and image, has not publicly commented on the incident. However, the theft of such sensitive material could have significant implications for her creative process and tour preparations.
Evans' sentencing serves as a warning to those who might consider similar crimes, with the court emphasizing the seriousness of the offense and the value of the stolen intellectual property.
