Love Actually Door Up for Auction as Owner Seeks Relief from Tourists
Love Actually Door Auctioned as Owner Seeks Relief

The front door from an iconic scene in the film Love Actually, where Keira Knightley's character receives a heartfelt confession through handwritten placards, is being auctioned with an estimated price of £5,000. This white wooden door, bearing the number 27, was central to the memorable moment when Mark, played by Andrew Lincoln, declares his feelings to Juliet, portrayed by Knightley. The scene is one of the most recognisable in the 2003 Richard Curtis film and has been widely replicated in social media memes.

Tourist Attraction Becomes a Burden

The door has become a significant tourist attraction, with fans of the British rom-com flocking to the property in Notting Hill, London, to capture a photo in front of it. After years of enduring crowds, the owner has decided to sell the door in hopes of finding relief from the constant attention. Dan Muscatelli-Hampson from Omega Auctions, the auction house handling the sale, explained: "The popularity of this great British rom-com has endured well past the 20-year anniversary of the film. The 'cards at the door' scene is surely the most memorable moment and has been the subject of much debate even over recent years."

Auction Details

The door is being sold by Omega Auctions in Newton-Le-Willows, Merseyside, with a pre-sale estimate between £3,000 and £5,000. The auction will take place on 7 May. Muscatelli-Hampson added: "Our vendor enjoyed the process of being part of the film but is hoping that someone else can take over ownership and that she might have a little bit of a relief from the thousands of Notting Hill tourists hoping for a snap in front of its most famous door!"

Love Actually was primarily filmed on location across London, with some scenes in Surrey and France. The placard scene was filmed in the picturesque cobbled St Luke's Mews. The film features an ensemble cast and explores different aspects of love through ten interlinked stories. It was a box office success upon its release in November 2003 and has become an enduring Christmas classic.
