King Charles Departs US as Queen Camilla Returns to UK Alone

King Charles has left the United States following a four-day state visit, while Queen Camilla has returned to the UK alone. The King is now en route to Bermuda for an official visit, marking his first trip to a British Overseas Territory since his accession.

The King departed from Joint Base Andrews on board HMX-1, the helicopter known as Marine One when the US President is on board. He was greeted by White House Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley and UK Ambassador Christian Turner, and received a full honours cordon, red carpet, and music from the US Air Force Band.

The royal couple's joint US visit concluded with a formal farewell from President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump at the White House. They also laid a wreath at Arlington Cemetery and attended a block party in Virginia.

Queen Camilla is not accompanying the King to Bermuda. The Bermuda leg of the tour will take place from April 30 to May 2, 2026, and will focus on the island's culture, environment, youth programmes, and public service. The programme includes a ceremonial welcome with a Guard of Honour and a 21-gun salute, and the King is expected to formally open a new coastguard facility.
