James Norton Tipped As Next James Bond By Steven Knight

James Norton has emerged as a frontrunner to play the next James Bond, with 'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight reportedly backing the actor for the iconic role. Norton, 37, from North Yorkshire, has demonstrated his versatility in roles ranging from a brutal sociopath in 'Happy Valley' to a tipsy vicar in 'Grantchester' and a conman in 'Rogue Agent'. His piercing gaze and seductive smile, combined with action chops, make him a strong candidate.

Norton's background includes studying theology and Buddhism before turning to acting full-time, which could bring a soulful dimension to the super-spy. For his role in the mini-series 'McMafia', he learned martial arts, spoke Russian, and wore a tuxedo—skills directly transferable to playing 007. The actor's age falls within the upper range of producers' ideal for a Bond who can continue for at least 15 years.

Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson have stated the next Bond must be a British man, young enough for a long tenure. However, with creative control shifting to Amazon MGM, changes may be in store. Other candidates include Theo James, 39, known for 'Divergent' and 'The Gentlemen'; Harris Dickinson, 28, from 'Triangle of Sadness' and 'The Iron Claw'; and Josh O'Connor, from 'The Crown'. The next Bond film, 'Bond 26', is not expected to begin production until 2025 at the earliest.
