Gorka Marquez is stepping away from Strictly Come Dancing after 10 years as a professional dancer on the BBC series. The Spanish star, aged 35, joined the show in 2016 and has been a finalist three times, partnering with celebrities Alexandra Burke, Maisie Smith, and Helen Skelton.

The news was confirmed on Tuesday, 28 April, ahead of the 2026 series set to air in September. The show's official Instagram account hailed Marquez as “a hugely popular” part of the programme, expressing sincere thanks for his exceptional contribution over the years.
The statement praised his passion, charisma, and exceptional choreography, noting: “As well as being part of our Strictly family, it’s been heartwarming to see him start his own family during his time with us and that journey reflects the same warmth, commitment and character he has always brought to the show.”

The BBC added: “We are incredibly grateful for his dedication to the series over the years and are so proud to see him shining in his judging role on Bailando con las Estrellas in Spain. We wish him continued success and happiness in everything that’s to come.”
Departures from the Show
Marquez is the latest professional dancer to leave the series following a significant overhaul that has seen Karen Hauer, Nadiya Bychkova, Luba Mushtuk, and Michelle Tsiakkas also depart. More updates are expected as the 2026 series approaches.
