Gorka Marquez has broken his silence following his departure from Strictly Come Dancing after a decade on the show. The 35-year-old Spanish professional dancer expressed his gratitude for his time on the BBC programme but admitted it was time to step back.
Physical Toll of Dancing
Speaking on his podcast 'Lost in Translation', which he co-hosts with his partner Gemma Atkinson, Marquez opened up about the physical demands of the role. He described the relentless schedule, often dancing from 9am to 10pm, as 'painful'. The dancer revealed that the constant dancing left him with sore feet and back, contributing to his decision to leave.
A Decade of Memories
Marquez joined Strictly in 2016 and quickly became a fan favourite. Over the years, he partnered with celebrities including Alexandra Burke and Maisie Smith, reaching the final multiple times. He thanked the show for the opportunities it gave him but emphasised the need to prioritise his health and wellbeing.
Fans have expressed mixed reactions, with many sad to see him go but supportive of his decision. Marquez’s departure marks the end of an era for the popular dance competition.
