BBC Breakfast Viewers Cringe Over Rachel Reeves Interview

BBC Breakfast viewers have expressed their discomfort after an interview with Chancellor Rachel Reeves was broadcast on the show. The politician spoke to business reporter Peter Ruddick in what many described as a 'toe-curling' exchange, according to the Express.

Reeves Challenged Over Starmer Resignation Absence

Ruddick pressed Reeves on her whereabouts during Prime Minister Keir Starmer's resignation statement. He noted that Reeves was not present in Downing Street but was later seen in Westminster Hall taking a selfie with Andy Burnham, who is tipped as a potential successor.

Reeves sidestepped the question, stating: 'I don't think anyone can doubt my commitment to the Prime Minister. I've been by his side for six years now as Shadow Chancellor and then as Chancellor of the Exchequer. And I've been there every step of the way making the decisions to turn around our economy.'

Viewers React on Social Media

Viewers took to X to share their reactions. One user wrote: 'Where were you when Keir Starmer made his resignation speech in Downing Street? Silence from Reeves!!' Another commented: 'WATCH Rachel Reeves SQUIRM as BBC Breakfast puts her on the spot for abandoning Starmer and jumping straight into bed with Burnham!'

A third viewer added: 'In a toe-curling moment, the Chancellor was directly challenged... Reeves, visibly uncomfortable, completely ignores the question.' They continued: 'Oh Rachel… that’s exactly why people are questioning your commitment. In his worst moment as PM you abandoned him and you know it.'

Calls for Direct Answers

Other viewers criticised Reeves' evasion. One said: 'Simple question and she still avoids answering.' Another remarked: 'When will they realise that this is part of the problem - just answer a direct question!'

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am daily.
