Thousands of football fans could be in line for free beers after a major UK brewer announced plans to give away £1 million worth of free pints to FIFA World Cup supporters. The giveaway will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while the £1 million bar tab lasts. However, there is a catch: the offer will only be available if one of three nations reaches the World Cup final.
Free Pints for Fans in Team Shirts
If England, Scotland or the United States makes it to the final, supporters wearing their team's shirt will be able to claim up to two free pints each at participating BrewDog bars and pubs on July 20, the day after the final. The beer company said the World Cup had already brought record turnouts to its bars, with many venues becoming busy places for supporters to watch the matches together.
Irwin Simon, chairman and chief executive of Tilray Brands, said: "Great bars have always been places where fans come together to enjoy the match, share great conversations and raise a beer or two." He added: "We are ready to help fans celebrate together across our participating bars and brewpubs."
Participating Venues and Other Sports
The offer will be available at participating BrewDog bars across England, Scotland, Ireland and Las Vegas, as well as selected BrewDog brewpubs in the United States. Many of the participating venues will also continue showing other live sport throughout the summer, including tennis and motor racing.
BrewDog was founded in Scotland in 2007 before being acquired by US drinks company Tilray Brands in March this year. The takeover happened through a pre-pack administration deal, which resulted in 38 UK bars closing and nearly 500 jobs being lost.
Current World Cup Standings
England have made a good start to the tournament and currently sit top of Group L with four points after a win and a draw. They play Panama in their final group match. The United States have already secured their place in the Round of 32 after winning both of their opening games. They sit top of Group D with six points. Scotland finished third in Group C with three points after one win and two defeats. They must now wait to see whether they have done enough to qualify for the Round of 32 as one of the tournament's best third-placed teams.
