A 50-year-old man has tragically died at Aberavon Beach in Port Talbot after suffering a medical emergency in the water on Wednesday afternoon, which was the hottest day of the year. Emergency services, including South Wales Police, paramedics, the Welsh Ambulance Service, and an air ambulance, were called to the scene around 4:25 PM following reports of a man requiring urgent medical help after entering the sea.
Emergency response and CPR
HM Coastguard personnel were first on the scene and immediately administered CPR to the man, who was from Cilfrew in Neath Port Talbot. Despite their efforts, and the subsequent arrival of the air ambulance and paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at 4:50 PM. A spokesperson for South Wales Police confirmed: "Officers were called to Aberavon Beach at around 4.25pm yesterday (Wednesday June 24) following a report of a man requiring medical assistance having entered the water. The Coastguard commenced CPR until the arrival of the air ambulance and paramedics. Despite the medical professionals' best efforts, the man - a 50-year-old man from Cilfrew, Neath Port Talbot - was pronounced dead at the scene at 4.50pm."
Death not suspicious
Police have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious. Next of kin have been informed. Aberavon Beach is a popular destination in South Wales, especially during warm weather, and the incident occurred on what was recorded as the hottest day of the year so far.
