Arsenal face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Wednesday evening, with their sights set on a spot in the final. The Gunners have had a remarkable European campaign, winning every league phase game before overcoming Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting CP to reach the final four.
Julian Alvarez Addresses Transfer Speculation
Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has spoken out against persistent transfer rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal. The former Manchester City forward, who has been in dazzling form this season, expressed frustration with the constant conjecture. In his pre-match press conference, he stated: 'I try not to pay too much attention to everything that's said. New things come out every week, all kinds of new information. I try not to waste energy on that and focus on what we're doing here.'
Alvarez added: 'It often starts to become a snowball of lies. I don't want to waste energy on this and I want to save it for things that help the team. We are focused on who we are today as a group, and we want to make history ourselves.'
Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has previously addressed the rumours, with reports suggesting a fee in excess of £120 million would be required to secure Alvarez's signature. However, the 26-year-old has now seemingly shut down the speculation.
Arsenal Target Bournemouth Star
In other transfer news, Arsenal are reportedly keeping close tabs on Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi. The 19-year-old Frenchman has scored 11 Premier League goals this season and has attracted interest from Liverpool and Manchester United as well.
Bournemouth signed Kroupi from Lorient for just £10 million in February 2025, but his valuation has soared. Reports suggest the Cherries have slapped an £80 million price tag on the youngster, with no release clause in his contract. This fee would surpass the £64 million Bournemouth received from Manchester City for Antoine Semenyo.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is believed to view Alvarez as his top summer target, but the player's comments suggest he is not entertaining a move. Meanwhile, Kroupi's potential arrival would bolster the Gunners' attacking options as they continue to compete on multiple fronts.
With the Champions League semi-final first leg looming, Arsenal will be focused on overcoming Diego Simeone's Atletico side. The north London club are aiming to reach their first European Cup final since 2006, and a positive result in Spain would put them in a strong position.
