The Queen has met her great-granddaughter Lilibet for the first time after inviting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to a private lunch at Windsor Castle during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Harry and Meghan introduced their daughter, who turns one on Saturday, to the monarch, who was nicknamed Lilibet as a child. The meeting took place behind closed doors following the Trooping the Colour parade.
Royal commentator Omid Scobie told BBC Breakfast that the couple want to keep a low profile this weekend to avoid overshadowing the Queen. He described their relationship with the monarch as 'warm and close'.
The couple attended the Trooping the Colour on Thursday but did not appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony, which was reserved for working royals only. They are expected to attend the Thanksgiving service at St Paul's Cathedral on Friday.
The Queen will not attend the service after suffering discomfort during the previous day's events. Prince Andrew has also pulled out after testing positive for coronavirus.
