Adam Driver breaks silence on Lena Dunham’s memoir allegations

Adam Driver has responded to allegations made by Lena Dunham in her memoir Famesick, in which she described his behaviour on the set of Girls as “verbally aggressive” and claimed he threw a chair. Speaking at a press conference for his new film Paper Tiger at the Cannes Film Festival, Driver declined to comment directly, saying: “I have no comment on any of that. I’m saving it all for my book.” His remark drew laughter from the audience.

In her memoir, published last month, Dunham wrote that Driver threw a chair at the wall next to her when she disassociated while running lines. She also alleged that he punched a hole in his trailer wall because he disliked his haircut and screamed in her face on another occasion. Despite this, Dunham said she felt a creative partnership with Driver and that his anger was “proportionate to the intensity of our creative connection.”

Driver, 42, played Dunham’s on-and-off love interest throughout all six seasons of Girls, which aired from 2012 to 2017. Dunham, 40, also claimed that they nearly slept together while his now-wife, Joanne Tucker, was out of town, but she decided against it to avoid complicating their working relationship. According to Dunham, Driver told her “I hope you know I’ll always love you” after filming his final scene, but she never heard from him again.
