Jurgen Klopp is relishing the prospect of reuniting with one of his former players at this summer's World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The former Liverpool manager will take up a punditry role for MagentaTV in his native Germany, marking a new chapter two years after leaving Anfield.
Klopp and Hummels Reunite
Klopp will be joined in the studio by Mats Hummels, the veteran defender who captained his Borussia Dortmund sides to consecutive Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012. Hummels, now 37, retired last year after a brief spell at Roma. The pair will also be alongside former Germany international Thomas Muller.
Reflecting on their new dynamic, Klopp told BBC Sport: "So many [of my] former players are part of the World Cup, which is really, really nice. And to see how time flies. Another former player of mine will be a co-pundit of mine, Mats Hummels, Thomas Muller as well, but Mats Hummels was my former player. So, all of a sudden, things changed the perspective."
A Change in Perspective
Klopp emphasised how the shift from manager to pundit has altered his viewpoint. He expressed excitement about watching former charges like Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, and Alexis Mac Allister shine on the global stage. However, he singled out Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz for particular praise, calling him a potential standout despite a difficult season.
Klopp also noted the upcoming group-stage clash between Scotland and Brazil, featuring Liverpool's Andy Robertson and Alisson, both of whom may leave the club this summer. England's 2026 World Cup kits are now available, with free delivery using code ENGFREEDEL.
