New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is fighting for his life after being shot in the abdomen outside a popular Manhattan restaurant in a shocking early morning incident.
Chaotic Scenes in Midtown Manhattan
The violent altercation occurred in Midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday morning outside Sei Less, an Asian fusion restaurant known as a celebrity hotspot frequented by stars like Cardi B and Mark Wahlberg. New footage released shows a group of police officers surrounding the injured NFL star as he lay in the street, with paramedics later administering emergency treatment before loading him onto a stretcher and into an ambulance.
Boyd was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where police initially confirmed he was in a critical but stable condition. However, later on Sunday, a friend of the cornerback provided a more positive update to the New York Post, stating: 'He's all good right now. He's in good condition. He's doing real good.'
Teammate Accused of Assaulting Reporter
The incident took another dramatic turn when cameraman Leeroy Johnson claimed on social media that Boyd's teammate Irvin Charles allegedly assaulted him as he reported from the scene. Johnson stated that Charles 'got in my face, grabbed my phone, shoved me, and repeatedly threatened me.' The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives of Charles for comment regarding these serious allegations.
According to police reports, the shooting followed a verbal dispute that escalated dramatically, resulting in the gunman firing two shots. Two luxury cars fled the scene immediately after the incident, with one believed to be carrying the shooter. Police are currently searching for a man who fled in a blue BMW in connection with the shooting, and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
Team and League Response
The New York Jets issued a brief statement acknowledging the situation: 'We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.' Meanwhile, several of Boyd's teammates took to social media to express their support and call for prayers.
Defensive end Jermaine Johnson wrote on social media: 'Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety.' Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips added his own message, describing Boyd as 'a fighter' and asking for divine intervention for his recovery.
Boyd signed with the Jets in free agency in March after playing with the Houston Texans for the past two seasons. The Texas native, who has reportedly earned more than $8 million throughout his NFL career, signed a $1.6 million contract with the Jets according to Spotrac.com. He hasn't played this season after being placed on the season-ending injured reserve list in August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.
Police have cordoned off the area of West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue where the shooting occurred as their investigation into this violent incident continues.
