Southport Labour MP Patrick Hurley has passionately defended Keir Starmer, warning fellow Labour MPs against plotting to replace him. Hurley argued that replacing Starmer would not solve the country's fundamental problems, such as global conflicts, economic growth, energy security, and climate change.
Stability Over Change
He cautioned that removing Starmer could destabilise the government, potentially leading to increased bond yields and greater economic difficulties. The MP drew a parallel with the previous Conservative administration's frequent changes in leadership, stating that such instability 'did no good for the country'.
Economic Consequences
Hurley stressed the importance of government stability for economic performance, which is crucial for funding public services and achieving Labour's goals. He emphasised that getting rid of Starmer would make things worse for the government.
