Second ICE Shooting in Minneapolis: Mayor Frey Blames 'Trump's Chaos'
Second ICE shooting in Minneapolis sparks protests

A second person has been shot by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during a night of significant unrest, prompting the city's mayor to issue a stark condemnation of what he termed 'Trump's chaos'.

Chaotic Night of Confrontation

The incident occurred on Wednesday night, one week after the fatal shooting of 37-year-old mother-of-three, Renee Nicole Good, in the same city. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), an undocumented migrant from Venezuela was shot in the leg by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer. The DHS stated the shooting happened as the man allegedly attempted to flee a targeted traffic stop.

The federal agency defended the officer's actions, claiming he opened fire while 'fearing for his life and safety'. Officials said the agent had been attacked by two individuals who came to the aid of the Venezuelan man, allegedly using a snow shovel and a broom handle. The injured man is reported to be in a stable condition in hospital. The agent also received medical treatment, and the two alleged assailants were arrested.

Mayor's Fury and Plea for Calm

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey delivered a forceful rebuke, directly criticising the role of federal agents in the escalating tensions. He slammed ICE for 'creating chaos' within his city and urged protesters not to respond with further violence.

'For anyone who is taking the bait tonight: stop,' Mayor Frey stated. 'It is not helpful. Go home. We cannot counter Donald Trump’s chaos with our own chaos. You are not helping the undocumented immigrants in our city.'

Escalating Tensions and Police Response

The shooting ignited immediate protests at the scene, with demonstrators clashing with law enforcement. Authorities deployed flashbang grenades and tear gas in an effort to disperse the crowds. This latest violent episode underscores the heightened and volatile atmosphere in Minneapolis following the death of Renee Nicole Good, which has already sparked national outrage and widespread demonstrations.

The situation remains tense as the community grapples with the consequences of two high-profile shootings involving federal agents in the span of just seven days.
