Chilling Police Footage Reveals Killer's Smirk as He Brands Toddler Victim 'Crazy'
Disturbing body camera footage has emerged showing a smirking killer attempting to blame his two-year-old victim for the horrific injuries that ultimately led to the child's death. Former Territorial Army corporal Scott O'Connor, 35, callously described Kol Page as "crazy" and "clumsy" during a police interview, while his partner, Zoe Coutts, 35, sobbed and claimed she had planned to seek medical help.
A Pattern of Sustained Abuse and Deception
Over several months, O'Connor ruthlessly beat Kol, tearing out his hair and leaving him with black eyes and a bald patch. Despite visible bruising, Coutts repeatedly cancelled visits from social workers. The couple exchanged pictures of Kol's injuries and joked about harming him, with one text from O'Connor reading, "It’s the whining that drives me insane haha." In another exchange, when Coutts messaged about Kol "whinging," O'Connor replied, "Jesus slap him back to sleep lol."
The abuse culminated in April 2022 when Kol, then aged two, was rushed to hospital with serious internal injuries consistent with punching, kicking, or stamping. Even as Kol lay unconscious, Coutts chose to call a friend instead of an ambulance, a delay doctors believe caused catastrophic brain damage due to oxygen deprivation. In the footage, she hypocritically sobbed, "It's my baby, I'd do everything for my baby," while having ignored his suffering for months.
Justice Served After a Harrowing Trial
Kol survived with severe disabilities, requiring round-the-clock care, and spent 14 months in hospital before moving to a foster family. He tragically died at age four in June 2024 from his injuries. O'Connor and Coutts, who met on the dating app Bumble, were accused of inflicting "catastrophic" injuries and weaving a "tissue of lies" to evade justice.
After a trial at Southwark Crown Court, a jury deliberated for 10 hours and 45 minutes, clearing both of murder. O'Connor was convicted of manslaughter, and Coutts was found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child. They are due to be sentenced in May by Mr Justice Johnson.
Detective's Heartbreaking Tribute to Kol
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn stated, "Kol was an innocent little boy who suffered horrific abuse in the place where he should have been safest - at home with his mother." She praised the tireless work of detectives who combed through messages, photos, and CCTV to expose the couple's lies, and thanked first responders and medical staff for their care. "Kol was boisterous, cheeky, and endlessly loving," she added. "He should have had a bright future, but was instead let down by those who should have protected him most. He will always be remembered."
The prosecution detailed that between March and April 2022, O'Connor was present at Coutts' home on 11 occasions, staying overnight at least seven times. On the night before Kol's hospitalization, neither defendant reported anything unusual, yet the next morning, Coutts described him as "pretty chesty," suggesting phlegm caused his sickness. Emergency services later found Kol with three injuries to his small bowel, attributed to significant abdominal force.
