Cleaner's Sustained Poisoning Campaign Uncovered by Co-Worker's Hidden Camera
In a disturbing case of workplace retaliation, a cleaner in Poland has been sentenced to six years in prison for secretly poisoning a colleague's tea with toxic chemicals over a period of several weeks. The victim, a 51-year-old woman, only uncovered the truth after installing a hidden camera in their shared kitchen, capturing chilling footage that became key evidence in court.
Calculated Acts of Revenge Lead to Severe Health Consequences
The poisoning campaign began after the victim reported concerns about her colleague's poor work performance, which prosecutors believe fuelled deep-seated resentment. Over six weeks from mid-November to late December 2024, 56-year-old Małgorzata W repeatedly laced her co-worker's drinks with cleaning products and industrial chemicals when left unattended.
Initially dismissing odd changes in colour and taste, the victim grew increasingly alarmed as she developed severe symptoms including stomach pain, breathing difficulties, a burning throat sensation, and repeated fainting episodes. Medical examinations later confirmed she had suffered serious internal chemical burns to her mouth, oesophagus, and stomach lining, with doctors warning the sustained exposure could have proven fatal.
Hidden Camera Captures Damning Evidence of Deliberate Contamination
Convinced she was being deliberately targeted, the victim took matters into her own hands by installing a covert surveillance device in their workplace kitchen. The footage clearly showed Małgorzata selecting a bright green bottle from a shelf of cleaning products, spraying its contents directly into a tea cup, carefully mixing it, and then wiping her fingerprints from a teaspoon.
In one particularly chilling recording, the perpetrator can be heard casually telling a friend on the phone, "The tea is standing there, so you know what that means," before proceeding to add the toxic substance. Laboratory tests confirmed that detergents and cleaning agents had been introduced into the drinks on multiple occasions, substances experts stressed are highly dangerous when ingested.
Court Delivers Verdict Emphasising Premeditated Nature of Crimes
Both women were employed by a cleaning company servicing a Polish Radio building on Mysliwiecka Street in Warsaw, where tensions had been escalating prior to the attacks. Last week, Małgorzata was found guilty of attempting to cause serious bodily harm, with judges highlighting the calculated and prolonged nature of her offences that placed her colleague's life at significant risk.
In addition to the prison sentence, she was ordered to pay a substantial fine. The court also reviewed charges against another woman, Elzbieta D, accused of being aware of the plot but failing to report it; however, she was acquitted due to insufficient evidence proving her knowledge of the ongoing attacks.
This case serves as a stark reminder of how workplace disputes can escalate into dangerous criminal behaviour, with the victim's proactive use of surveillance ultimately preventing potentially deadly consequences.
