Passengers were left struggling to breathe after a chemical substance was sprayed inside a train on the Tokaido Line in Japan, resulting in ten individuals being hospitalised. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 10, according to local media reports.
Incident Details
The train was travelling from Odawara Station in Kanagawa Prefecture to Takasaki Station in Gunma Prefecture. After passengers reported feeling unwell, the vehicle stopped at Kawasaki Station at around 4:35 PM local time. Authorities were alerted at approximately 4:30 PM following reports of a substance being sprayed inside the train cars.
Emergency Response
Upon arrival at JR Kawasaki Station, more than 20 ambulances and emergency vehicles were dispatched to the scene. Services on the Tokaido Line were suspended between Yokohama and Shinagawa stations as emergency crews attended to the affected passengers. JR East, the largest of the seven Japan Railways Group companies, later resumed train operations on the Yokosuka Line tracks.
Victims and Investigation
Ten people were hospitalised, with some experiencing coughing and difficulty breathing. Authorities have not yet confirmed the nature of the substance sprayed or the full extent of injuries sustained. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source and composition of the chemical.
