Boebert Fires Back at Trump: 'I Can't Be Primaried'

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) has dismissed President Donald Trump's threat to endorse a primary challenger against her, noting that the filing deadline for candidates in Colorado has already passed. 'Well, I can't be primaried,' Boebert told The Independent on Capitol Hill. 'My primary is locked in, so I support the president, and we're moving forward.'

Trump attacked Boebert as 'weak-minded' after she campaigned for Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), a vocal critic of the president. Massie lost his primary to Ed Gallrein, who received Trump's endorsement. Boebert suggested Gallrein's victory was due to Trump's support rather than his own merits. 'I don't think the voters know exactly who Ed Gallrein is. They were voting for President Trump in that election,' she said.

Boebert defended her support for Massie, stating, 'I stood by the president, I stand by my friend, and I got work to do.' Massie and Boebert had worked together to force a vote on releasing files related to Jeffrey Epstein, a move that passed with near-unanimous support despite opposition from House Republican leadership and Trump.

This is not the first time Trump has crossed Boebert. Last year, she passed a clean water bill for Colorado with unanimous support, only for Trump to veto it. Congress failed to override the veto. Boebert is now the last of the 'rogue Republicans' who signed the discharge petition for the Epstein files, as Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Nancy Mace have left or are leaving Congress.
