Donald Trump reportedly issued a three-word warning to King Charles about Vladimir Putin during the King's state visit to the US, according to a lip reader. The exchange occurred as the King and Queen Camilla were greeted by the Trumps on the White House South Lawn on Monday.
Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the Daily Mail that Trump referred to a recent shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner and his talks with the Russian president. Trump appeared to say, 'So right now, I am talking to Putin,' adding, 'He wants war.' He then allegedly continued, 'I've got a feeling… if he did what he said, he will wipe out the population.'
The King seemed to steer the conversation away, replying, 'Another time,' according to Hickling. The initial greeting was not audible to cameras, but the lip reader interpreted Trump's comments as a warning about Putin's intentions.
The state visit comes amid strained UK-US relations over the Iran conflict. On Tuesday, King Charles is expected to address Congress, highlighting the alliance between the two nations and stressing the importance of the rule of law and democratic traditions.
