Sheridan Smith Embraces Rigorous Regime for New ITV Drama Role
Sheridan Smith is transforming her physique through an intensive bootcamp programme as she prepares for her upcoming role in ITV's new drama Two Birds. The acclaimed actress, known for her performances in Mrs Biggs and Cilla, has committed to a high-end £2,350 bootcamp to build muscle mass for her portrayal of a troubled police officer.
Strict Diet and Hardcore Exercise for Australian Filming
The 44-year-old star is following a strict eating plan alongside a demanding exercise routine to get in shape for the six-part series, which will soon begin filming in the Australian Outback. Smith plays Constable Izzie Cornwell, a character who relocates to Australia to rebuild her life after being widowed.
In the drama, her character—who possesses a self-destructive streak—becomes involved in a murder investigation concerning a death within a notorious local crime family. Smith has been sharing glimpses of her preparation on Instagram, including workout photos and images of herself learning to ride a motorbike.
No Days Off for the Versatile Performer
Sheridan Smith recently told comedian Romesh Ranganathan on his podcast that she's excited about the action-packed project. 'My next job is a drama in Australia. I have to learn to ride a motorbike and have combat training—I've got to beef up,' she explained. The actress emphasized her dedication by telling social media followers she has 'no days off.'
This physical transformation marks a significant change from her recent stage appearance in Glasgow, where she performed in Alan Ayckbourn's Woman In Mind. During that production, Smith appeared increasingly thin while portraying a housewife on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
Comprehensive Preparation Beyond the Bootcamp
Beyond the intensive programme with 1st Class Bootcamp, Smith has been undergoing a gruelling schedule of stunts and fight choreography to fully prepare for her role. This isn't the first time the actress has bulked up for a part—she previously transformed her physique for the 2017 BBC drama The Moorside, earning critical acclaim for her portrayal of Julie Bushby in the story about Shannon Matthews' disappearance.
Meanwhile, audiences can see Sheridan Smith in another role this Sunday night in The Cage, a BBC thriller where she plays a crooked casino croupier who falls foul of gangsters. The star recently attended the UK premiere of this new show, demonstrating her continued versatility across different dramatic projects.
