Scott Mills has joined the list of celebrities paying tribute to Liza Tarbuck after she announced her departure from BBC Radio 2. Tarbuck, 61, had hosted her Saturday evening show from 6pm to 8pm since 2012. She revealed on Instagram that she had taken a 'French exit', meaning her final show has already aired, with Shaun Keaveny filling in until the end of March.
On his BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Mills read a listener's message: 'Gutted about Liza, she's a friend who visits our house every Saturday, my kids call her the crazy duck lady. She will be missed.'
Tarbuck's Instagram post read: 'We made two hours of radio feel like a private members club, that's the stuff of dreams. Thank you for letting me in, it's been a privilege.' She signed off with: 'Tarbuck doffs a battered bowler hat & bows deeply, see you in the ice.'
Celebrity friends including Lisa Faulkner, Jo Whiley, Rylan, and Natalie Cassidy expressed their sadness. Head of Radio 2 Helen Thomas said: 'Every Saturday evening, Liza created a truly magical, fantastical world. She was beloved by everyone at the station and all her listeners, and the door at Radio 2 will always be open for her.'
