Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has responded to reports that former US President Donald Trump called him 'crazy' during a recent phone call. In an interview with CNBC, Netanyahu acknowledged 'tactical disagreements' with Trump but stressed that they 'agree on the main things,' particularly preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Netanyahu's Response to Trump's Remarks
During the interview, Netanyahu addressed the reported comment directly, saying: 'Sometimes we have, as in the best of families, you have these tactical disagreements. But we always find a way to work them out, and we do so as great friends.' He added that they could 'disagree in the morning' and find common ground by the afternoon.
Trump's Claims About Israel
Trump had earlier told the prime minister that 'there would be no Israel' without him and denied being 'tricked' into the ongoing conflict with Iran. The former president also expressed frustration with Netanyahu's actions regarding Lebanon, saying: 'Bibi, you’ve got to stop this. You’ve got to stop it.'
The phone call also touched on global oil supply and Israel's investment appeal, though details of those discussions remain private. The relationship between the two leaders has been closely watched, with Trump often boasting about his support for Israel during his presidency.
Netanyahu's response highlights the complex dynamics between the two allies, who have maintained a strong bond despite occasional public disagreements. The Israeli prime minister emphasized that their shared strategic interests, particularly on Iran, outweigh any personal disputes.
