WWE Legend's Heartbreak: The Voicemail That Ended a Marriage
Marc Mero, the celebrated WWE icon, has publicly shared the devastating circumstances under which he uncovered his former wife's infidelity with a fellow wrestling superstar. The 65-year-old athlete was married to WWE sensation Sable, legally known as Rena Lesnar, for a full decade, during which he even adopted her daughter from a prior marriage to Wayne Richardson.

Their union, however, dissolved in 2004 following Mero's accusations of cheating. He asserted that Sable was involved in an extramarital relationship with Brock Lesnar, whom she later married in 2006. In a recent interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Mero provided a detailed account of the painful separation, pinpointing the exact moment he learned of the affair.
Mero explained that after Sable resumed her career with WWE in 2003, he had already left the organization and remained at home to care for their daughter, Mariah. He noted that Sable would routinely call home each night while traveling to say goodnight to Mariah, but these calls gradually became less frequent.
"Mariah wouldn't get to talk to her mom, so she'd be a little upset, saying things like, 'I didn't get to talk to Mom today,' you know," Mero recounted, highlighting the growing tension within the family. The Fateful Voicemail Discovery
Frustrated by the situation, Mero left a harsh voicemail for Sable, but later regretted his actions and attempted to delete it. "I remember I got really upset because I'd call her and it'd just go to voicemail," he continued. "So I called up and left this really nasty message like, 'You know, why don't you - what is wrong with you? Your daughter's upset, I'm upset.' Then I felt really bad because I know what it's like being on the road."
Since they shared access to each other's phones, Mero tried to call back and erase his message. Instead, he stumbled upon a voicemail from another man. "I got to listen to this first message, which was a male's voice talking about their night before and apologizing to her. It was just really heartbreaking, like she's with somebody else," he revealed, describing the moment as emotionally crushing.
Confrontation and Immediate Divorce
When Mero confronted Sable about the incriminating voicemail, their marriage swiftly collapsed. "I played it, and she just said, 'I want a divorce,'" Mero stated. "That was it." Despite this confrontation, Mero did not immediately learn that the secret lover was Brock Lesnar, as Sable refused to disclose his identity for a considerable time.
"It was later on. I mean, it was a while. She never would tell me who it was," he admitted. Reflecting on the aftermath, Mero expressed a sense of peace and forgiveness. "You know, the amazing thing about forgiveness is - people say, 'How do you forgive somebody?' For me, it's real easy. When they mention her name, I don't get angry anymore. And I wish them the best. They've got great kids, and my life couldn't be better."
Life After the Split
Sable, who made history in 1999 as the first WWE star to grace the cover of Playboy magazine, with her issue becoming the highest-selling in the publication's history at that time, went on to marry Brock Lesnar in 2006. The couple welcomed two sons together, and Sable largely withdrew from public life, only appearing occasionally to support Lesnar at UFC events.
Meanwhile, Marc Mero moved forward, finding love again. He married Darlene Spezzi in 2009, though that relationship also ended after a decade. Most recently, he entered into his third marriage, tying the knot with his partner Malissa in a private ceremony last December, marking a new chapter in his personal life.
